Lighthouse Cruises

There are very few offshore lighthouses in the world that people can go aboard - you can tour one of them with us!

The Seaport Museum offers a variety of lighthouse cruises including the popular Bug Light House Excursion.  Each cruise begins with a welcome at the museum, where participants get their boarding passes and see the actual Fresnel lenses of Plum Island and Little Gull lighthouses.

Cruise participants have the opportunity to explore lighthouses, take photos, enjoy the panoramic views, and learn about their history.  Our trips are narrated by Ted Webb, an expert on local maritime history and one of the people instrumental in its preservation and/or Bob Allen, the great grandson of William H. Follett, the last lighthouse keeper of Bug Light. They share family stories and legends about the lights, including several that are reputedly haunted.

Please make reservations early as many of the cruises sell out well in advance of the date.

2014 Cruise Schedule

BUG LIGHTHOUSE VISIT

Visit the North Fork’s iconic lighthouse – Bug Light.  The lighthouse is open to the public thanks to cruises offered by the East End Seaport Museum.

Take photos, learn about the lighthouse history, and enjoy the guide’s stories. The wrap-around observation deck offers spectacular surround views. On a clear day the shore of Old Saybrook, CT is visible across Long Island Sound.

From the lighthouse pier, the lighthouse is accessed on the ground floor. A staircase leads to the main level.
A spiral staircase leads to the upper floor. The lantern is off-limit for visitation because the light is a U.S. Coast Guard operated aid-to-navigation.
